URBANA, Ill. — A Champaign woman has pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI in connection with a March 2025 crash that killed a two-month-old infant.
Kartila Brooks, 40, entered her guilty plea Tuesday in Champaign County Circuit Court to one count of aggravated DUI involving a fatality. Brooks was arrested following a multi-vehicle crash at Philo Road and Colorado Avenue on March 13, 2025.
Urbana police said Brooks submitted to chemical testing after the crash. Laboratory results from the Illinois State Police confirmed her blood contained THC above the legal limit. She was arrested on April 11, 2025, and taken to the Champaign County Jail.
Brooks is scheduled for sentencing on February 10, 2026, at 11 a.m. Court Services has been ordered to prepare a pre-sentence investigation report, which was filed Wednesday. She has been advised that she must appear for sentencing, and proceedings may continue in her absence if she fails to attend.
