A joint operation by the Special Task Force (Varanasi unit) and Kaushambi police on Friday resulted in the arrest of a notorious criminal named Kartik, a resident of Jaunpur. Kartik was wanted in connection with the murder and loot of a trailer driver on May 16 near Kasia service lane on NH 2, within Kokhraj police station limits of Kaushambi district. He carried a Rs. 1 lakh reward on his head.
Following the incident, police had already apprehended five dacoits involved in the crime, while one suspect was killed in a police encounter.
In a related development, Kaushambi police recovered 107 missing or stolen mobile phones valued at Rs. 25 lakh and successfully returned them to their rightful owners on Friday.
