Karnataka Police Arrest 3 in Rs53 Crore Canara Bank Heist

Manager Vijayakumar Miriyala among three held for major jewellery theft

Karnataka Police have cracked one of India’s largest bank heists involving the theft of Rs53 crore worth of jewellery. Three men, including a former bank branch manager, were arrested in connection with the case.

The accused are Vijayakumar Miriyala, 41, Chandrashekar Nerella, 38, an employee of a private company, and Sunil Narasimhalu Moka, 40. The theft occurred on May 25 at the Canara Bank branch in Managuli town, Vijayapura district, where 58.97 kg of gold ornaments were stolen.

Authorities said Vijayakumar, who had recently been transferred from the branch, was a key suspect in orchestrating the heist. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the crime and any other possible accomplices.

Police have assured swift action to recover the stolen gold and bring all involved to justice.
