Karnataka police have arrested 28-year-old Satish Hiremath, a petrol station worker from Narayanapura village, for the murder of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Madhushree Angadi, whose disappearance had remained a mystery for six months.
The couple had been in a relationship for nearly six years before Angadi’s family intervened and relocated her to her relatives’ home in Gadag town. On December 16, 2024, Madhushree left her relatives’ house and vanished. However, the disappearance was only reported on January 12, 2025, when her family filed a missing-person complaint at Betageri police station.
Investigations revealed that Hiremath had taken Madhushree to a farmhouse near their village on the night of her disappearance. A heated argument ensued when she insisted that he marry her. In a fit of rage, Hiremath allegedly strangled her with a veil and buried her body near a nearby stream.
After the murder, Hiremath continued his daily routine and falsely claimed he had dropped Madhushree on the outskirts of Gadag town, denying any knowledge of her whereabouts. However, digital evidence — specifically a location ping from her phone — contradicted his version of events.
Confronted with this proof, Hiremath confessed and led police to the burial site, where skeletal remains were recovered, though the skull remains missing. Forensic experts are working to confirm the identity and cause of death.
Superintendent of Police B S Namegouda called the arrest a significant breakthrough, emphasizing the role of technology in solving the case and bringing justice to Madhushree’s family.
