The Konkan Railway police intercepted a massive shipment of suspected illegal bovine meat at Margao railway station’s parcel office on Sunday. The haul, weighing 514.5 kilograms and valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, was found to have been transported illegally from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station in Delhi.
Fayaz Ahmed Kengenavar, 37, a Karnataka native residing in Davorlim, Margao, was arrested for violating the Goa Animal Preservation Act and the Railway Act. The meat was being transported under false declaration and lacked mandatory approvals from the relevant authorities.
Police officials reported that the meat was stored in unhygienic conditions, making it unfit for human consumption. The seizure operation was led by Police Inspector Sunil Gudlar with assistance from PSI Roosevelt Fernandes, Police Constables Shekh Irshad and Mohammad Hussain, under the supervision of the SP and DySP of Konkan Railway.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities probe possible connections to larger trafficking networks.
