Morgantown Woman Arrested for Embezzling Over $4,000 from Local Business

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WDTV) – A woman has been arrested for allegedly embezzling more than $4,000 from a Morgantown business where she worked as an office manager.

According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, Karen Urick, 57, of Maidsville, is accused of stealing $4,068 from Spineworks while employed there.

Authorities launched an investigation in December, uncovering that Urick allegedly:

Took money from the point-of-sale system
Changed the system password
Cleared out her office and stole patient information
Unplugged a security camera to avoid detection
The business owner reportedly made multiple attempts to contact Urick regarding the missing funds, but she refused to return calls or texts.

Urick now faces charges of embezzlement, falsifying accounts, and wrongfully seeking worker’s compensation. She is currently being held at North Central Regional Jail with bond set at $20,000.
