Patna police have arrested two individuals for the brutal murder of a 25-year-old man, Rajnish Kumar, over a romantic dispute that occurred last month in Usmanchak village, Lahsuna area.
The accused—Karan Kumar (21) and Dhuri Kumar alias Pagla (23)—were apprehended on Saturday following a month-long investigation. Authorities believe the motive was revenge for Rajnish sharing his mobile number with a woman whose family disapproved of the interaction.
According to SDPO Nabh Vaibhav (Masaurhi), the plot was hatched by the woman’s family and friends. “Rajnish was contacted by the girl and lured to Usmanchak. There, he was assaulted and killed. His body was dumped in a nearby canal,” said Vaibhav. The body was recovered on April 1, one day after the incident.
Jitendra Kumar, the woman’s brother-in-law, reportedly witnessed Rajnish passing his phone number to the woman’s sister. This seemingly minor gesture led to deadly consequences.
“The attackers included the arrested duo and several others. Raids are ongoing to capture the remaining suspects,” Vaibhav added. Both accused are known to police and have prior criminal records, though further details have yet to be disclosed.
The incident is being investigated as a possible case of honour-based violence, highlighting ongoing societal tensions around love and autonomy in parts of rural Bihar.
