The CIA staff 2 of the Ludhiana police commissionerate arrested Karan Arora, a property dealer from Mahavir Enclave, Barewal Road, on Thursday. Arora was wanted in seven land fraud cases and was reportedly planning to flee the country to avoid arrest.
Police intercepted Arora at a checkpoint in Sherpur Chowk, following a tip-off. According to ACP (Detective 2) Rajesh Sharma, the accused had gone to Delhi to arrange for his escape and returned to Ludhiana when he was apprehended.
During the arrest, police also recovered a Land Rover Defender vehicle from him.
Arora is accused of orchestrating fraudulent land deals by buying property, dividing it into plots, and selling them to buyers under long-term instalment agreements. After collecting partial payments, he allegedly re-sold the same plots at higher prices to new buyers using different registry deeds.
The ACP confirmed that four cases were registered against Arora on April 14 alone, with other cases lodged at police stations including PAU, Haibowal, and Division Number 8.
A Class 12 pass-out, Arora is now under interrogation, and police are working to identify his associates. Authorities have urged victims of similar frauds to come forward and file complaints.
