In a major breakthrough, Kalka police have arrested Karan alias Cheeku (22), a notorious thief from Upper Mohalla, Kalka, for allegedly stealing valuables worth approximately Rs32 lakh. The stolen items include 300 grams of gold, 186 grams of silver, and Rs1.2 lakh in cash.
Karan, who studied only up to Class IX, is a habitual offender. He had two previous theft cases registered against him at Kalka police station in 2022 and 2024. At the time of this latest theft
The incident came to light after Harvinder Singh, also a resident of Upper Mohalla, reported that his home was burglarized on April 14 while he was away with family in Paonta Sahib. Upon returning, Singh discovered that his cupboard had been broken into and valuables were missing. Shockingly, this was the second time his house had been targeted by the same thief.
A case was registered under BNS Sections 305 and 331(3). Acting swiftly, a detective team reviewed CCTV footage and gathered evidence from the area. Head Constable Kanwarpal Singh received a key tip-off that the suspect was spotted near the Kalka vegetable market.
Following this lead, police raided the location on May 15 and arrested Karan on the spot. He was presented in court on May 16, where police secured a three-day remand. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and police subsequently recovered all stolen items based on his disclosure.
