Toronto, ON — A 48-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly violating a court order by failing to return to Canada with his young son following an overseas trip.
According to Toronto police, Kapil Sunak of Ashburn took his three-year-old son, Valentino, to Delhi, India, in July 2024. Under a legal agreement, the two were required to return to Canada by August 8, 2024.
However, Sunak allegedly remained in India with the child, violating a court-mandated custody arrangement. Authorities later arranged for their return. Upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on June 10, 2025, Sunak was arrested by the Canada Border Services Agency.
He has since been charged with abduction of a child under 14 years old in contravention of a court order.
Sunak was scheduled to appear in court on the day of his arrest. The child has since been safely returned.
