VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A 29-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly posing as the owner of reclaimed bricks and fraudulently selling them to an unsuspecting buyer for $2,100.
On Sunday, May 18, the Vicksburg Police Department responded to a report on Locust Street, where the actual property owner reported the theft of reclaimed bricks.
According to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, Kanton Mark McKay falsely claimed ownership of the bricks and arranged a sale. The victim met with McKay twice—first paying $1,800, then returning with another $300—believing McKay had legitimate ownership of the materials.
Because the transaction took place in Warren County, the Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation. McKay was arrested and charged with felony false pretense. During the arrest, authorities also discovered McKay had an outstanding warrant for criminal trespass.
McKay appeared before Judge Jeff Crevitt on May 20. His bond was set at $6,000—including $5,000 for the false pretense charge and $1,000 for the prior trespass warrant.
Authorities have since recovered the stolen reclaimed bricks.
