Kanpur Police have arrested Divyansh Srivastava, a man impersonating an IRS officer, in connection with a fraud case involving promises of jobs and liquor contracts. Authorities recovered fake ID cards, a car fitted with a hooter, and multiple forged documents.
The arrest came after victims reported being cheated out of Rs16 lakh. Himanshu Saxena, a resident of Karmacharinagar, Chakeri, stated that in 2023 he met Divyansh Srivastava, who claimed to be an Indian Revenue Service officer. Divyansh promised to secure a liquor contract from the excise department and offer jobs, but failed to deliver.
ACP Chakeri Abhishek Pandey confirmed that Divyansh repeatedly delayed and misled the victims while maintaining the pretense of his authority. The accused was produced in court on Monday and sent to jail. The case is being investigated under Chakeri police station jurisdiction.
