The Bhopal Cyber-Crime Branch arrested two individuals involved in an online job scam that promised easy profits through simple internet tasks. The arrests took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Sridungargarh, Rajasthan. The accused have been identified as Kanakbhai Ahmadabadi (32) of Chamanpura, Ahmedabad, and Hansraj Godara (22) from Upni, Sridungargarh. Authorities also seized a mobile phone and SIM card used in the fraudulent activities.
According to Additional DCP Shailendra Singh Chouhan, the accused operated Telegram channels that offered work-from-home “job opportunities.” Victims were enticed with promises of earning money by booking flight tickets and posting five-star online ratings. They were directed to register on fake websites and asked for small initial deposits. Fake profits were credited to victims’ accounts to build trust, but when they tried to withdraw larger amounts, they were told their ‘score’ was insufficient and pressured to deposit more money. Ultimately, large sums were funneled into fraudulently rented bank accounts.
The accused were found to be renting out their bank accounts to cyber fraudsters to carry out these crimes. The investigation started following a complaint by Pooja Dwivedi from Bawadia Kala, who lost Rs 5.95 lakh after being duped through a Telegram channel offering fake online tasks.
Following a detailed probe, the Cyber-Crime Branch tracked and arrested the suspects from Gujarat and Rajasthan. Both confessed to renting their bank accounts for illegal activities.
