Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a farmer in Neemuch district on Monday. According to SP Ankit Jaiswal, the victim, Nagesh Bhil, was killed on Saturday by his younger brother Kamlesh and nephew Vishnu.
The family was involved in an ongoing dispute over an opium farming lease registered in the name of their grandmother, Nani Bai. On the day of the incident, Nagesh arrived at the farm intoxicated and allegedly began verbally abusing his wife, Tamma Bai, and his brother Kamlesh. Disturbed by the abuse, Tamma Bai left for home.
The following morning, Tamma Bai returned to the farm only to find Nagesh’s body bearing injuries to his head and face. In a heated moment, Kamlesh wrongly accused Tamma Bai of the murder and assaulted her with a wooden stick. The village Sarpanch, Raghuveer Sharma, intervened to protect her.
After investigating the scene, police detained Kamlesh and Vishnu. During interrogation, both confessed to killing Nagesh, stating they were driven by frustration caused by his constant verbal abuse and quarrels. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
