A couple from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has been arrested for allegedly stealing a gold necklace from a jewellery store in the Kotwali Nagar area last month, the police reported on Friday.
The accused, identified as Kamlesh and his wife Poonam, were caught on CCTV footage while stealing the necklace on September 26. The footage was key in tracing their movements, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (City) Rijul.
Following the theft, a police team was assembled to track the duo. Acting on leads, authorities arrested the couple on Thursday in Jaipur and brought them back for questioning.
During interrogation, Kamlesh and Poonam confessed to committing similar thefts in Mumbai, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh over the years. The police confirmed that the couple operated a pattern of jewellery heists across states, targeting high-value ornaments using sleight of hand and distraction tactics.
Investigations are ongoing, and police are verifying the couple’s connection to unsolved theft cases in other regions.
