The Anti-Narcotic Cell of Pimpri-Chinchwad police has arrested notorious criminal Kalyani alias Jayashree Deshpande from Rajanagaram in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district.
DCP Crime Sandeep Doiphode told Hindustan Times, “In May, we received information about Deshpande’s involvement in an illegal ganja network. A raid led to the arrest of three associates, but she initially escaped. After persistent efforts and technical surveillance, we tracked and arrested her in Andhra Pradesh.”
Deshpande, a key figure in Pune’s criminal underworld for over 20 years, faces more than two dozen cases including charges under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA), the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), murder, and financial fraud.
Previously, she ran a sex racket from her bungalow in Pune’s Sus area, with operations reportedly spanning India and abroad. Convicted in 2016 and sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment, she was released in 2023–24 and allegedly resumed illegal activities with her husband and relatives.
On May 24, police raided the ‘Kalyani Collection’ shop in Bavdhan, arresting her husband Umesh Deshpande, niece Aishwarya Ranawade, and Aishwarya’s husband Abhishek Ranawade. However, Kalyani had escaped once again—until her recent arrest marked a major breakthrough in the narcotics crackdown.
