In a major breakthrough, Bhagalpur police arrested seven individuals, including four key members of an organised theft ring, for their alleged role in stealing 20 e-rickshaws. The arrests took place on Sunday from a remote location in Pannuchak under Ghogha police station limits, within Kahalgaon sub-division.

According to Kahalgaon SDPO Kalyan Anand, the miscreants would steal e-rickshaws, dismantle them, and sell off the parts — primarily batteries — to buyers operating in the grey market. Alongside the gang members, police also nabbed three buyers of the stolen parts.

The arrested gang members have been identified as Gautam Kumar, Piyush Kumar, Rahul Kumar, and Vidhi Vurudh Balak, all hailing from the Pannuchak locality. The three buyers — Premjit Kumar alias Chunna, Shivpujan Kumar, and Amarjeet Kumar alias Rakesh Kumar — were arrested from Mahadevapura village under Sanhoula police station.

In the raid, police recovered 20 stolen e-rickshaws, 33 batteries, and various other spare parts. “This gang was active across Bhagalpur district. They specialized in stealing electric vehicles and selling the components,” said SDPO Kalyan Anand.

An FIR has been registered at Ghogha police station, and police are continuing their investigation. Authorities expect to make more arrests as the gang’s network and operations are further exposed.
