A 50-year-old man, identified as Kalimullah, was taken into custody in Basti district for allegedly killing a dog and more than a dozen puppies following an attack by one of the animals.
According to Circle Officer Kuldeep Singh Yadav, the incident occurred near Mungraha intersection, where Kalimullah was reportedly bitten by a dog. Enraged by the bite, he attacked the dog and its litter using a stick, resulting in the death of all the animals.
Police acted quickly upon learning of the incident, registering a formal case and arranging for a burial of the deceased animals. The suspect was apprehended on Sunday night, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Authorities have emphasized the seriousness of animal cruelty, reminding citizens that such acts are punishable under the law.
