BIG SPRING, Texas (KOSA) — Police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the deadly shooting of a man found in the roadway on August 1.
Kaleb Olivas, 17, was arrested on September 16 and formally charged with murder in the death of 20-year-old Christopher Salazar, according to the Big Spring Police Department.
The incident unfolded around midnight on August 1, when officers responded to a report of a man lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, police found Salazar unresponsive and began life-saving efforts, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
From the beginning, the Criminal Investigation Division treated the case as a homicide, although initial details were limited.
Following weeks of investigation and interviews, detectives identified Kaleb Olivas as a suspect. A warrant for his arrest was obtained shortly thereafter.
On Tuesday, September 16, at approximately 3:00 p.m., detectives with the Big Spring Police Department, assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, Howard County Sheriff’s Office, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, located and arrested Olivas without resistance in the 1000 Block of N. Main.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and no further information has been released at this time.
