In a major breakthrough against organized crime, Delhi Police arrested a key member of the Kala Jathedi gang after a brief exchange of fire in Dwarka, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Vikas alias Anagha, is closely associated with the notorious Anil Chippi and Kala Jathedi gangs. He sustained a bullet injury in his right leg during the encounter and was later taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to police, they received a tip-off about Vikas’s movement near Hiran Kundna Mor in Southwest Delhi, where he was reportedly carrying an illegal firearm. Acting on the information, a trap was laid to intercept him.
When the police team approached, Vikas opened fire, discharging three rounds at the officers. One of the bullets struck the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Sandeep, narrowly missing him. The police retaliated with two rounds, injuring and overpowering the accused.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Vikas is wanted in several serious crimes, including a murder case in Sampla, Rohtak, an attempt to murder case, and a robbery-cum-murder registered at KN Katju Marg Police Station in Rohini, Delhi.
Further investigation is underway to identify his associates and uncover his role in the broader operations of the Kala Jathedi gang.
