Delhi: Police have arrested Ankur, husband of Delhi Police SWAT officer Kajal Chaudhary, for allegedly beating her to death at their rented home in Mohan Garden Extension, West Delhi.
Kajal, 27, who was four months pregnant, was assaulted on the night of January 22. She suffered multiple injuries, including a head injury caused by a heavy dumbbell, according to the FIR. Despite being rushed to a hospital in Ghaziabad, she succumbed to her injuries on January 27.
The investigation has highlighted a chilling phone call between Kajal and her brother Nikhil, a constable at Parliament Street Police Station. During the call, Kajal detailed ongoing disputes, before Ankur allegedly snatched the phone. Nikhil reported hearing his sister scream before the call abruptly ended. Minutes later, Ankur allegedly called back, claiming Kajal had died.
Kajal’s family has accused her in-laws of persistent dowry harassment, stating that expensive gifts, including a motorcycle, gold jewellery, and cash, were given at the time of marriage. Despite this, demands reportedly continued, including loans and a car.
Nikhil also claimed that Ankur had previously assaulted Kajal about five months ago. Despite her demanding role as a SWAT officer and being pregnant, Kajal was allegedly expected to manage household chores after returning from work.
Kajal and Ankur met while studying in Panipat, Haryana, and married in November 2023. They had a one-and-a-half-year-old son, who is now under the care of Kajal’s parents.
Police have registered a murder case and are investigating further, including allegations of dowry harassment.
