Delhi Police have arrested four men from Rajasthan in connection with the Rs26 lakh robbery at a trader’s office in Kucha Ghasi Ram, Chandni Chowk, on May 31. The accused were identified as Kailash (22), Motilal (26), Rajmal alias Raju (44), and Mukesh (24). One suspect, Kamlesh, remains at large.
According to DCP (North) Raja Banthia, the incident occurred around 3 PM when the trader was alone in his office. Two men arrived, claiming they were there to collect money. Once inside, they overpowered the businessman, tied his hands, legs, and mouth using khaki tape and yellow rope, and looted bundles of cash from a cupboard. They then locked him inside and fled.
Police launched a detailed investigation, reviewing footage from 250 CCTV cameras across Chandni Chowk, Red Fort, Dhaula Kuan, and Jaipur Highway. Surveillance revealed the gang regrouped near Red Fort before heading to Dhaula Kuan, where they boarded a Rajasthan Roadways bus. The trail led the police to Dhelana village in Amet, Rajsamand district, Rajasthan.
Kailash was the first to be arrested and confessed during interrogation, revealing the identities of his accomplices. Subsequent raids led to the arrest of Motilal, Rajmal, and Mukesh. Police recovered Rs18 lakh, along with the clothes worn during the robbery.
Investigators uncovered that Mukesh, a former employee at an angadia firm in the same building, provided insider information. Familiar with the staff and cash flow, he masterminded the plan. The group arrived in Delhi on May 27, stayed at multiple Paharganj hotels, and conducted detailed reconnaissance of the area before executing the robbery.
The accused also confessed to a previous robbery in Kidwai Nagar, Kanpur, prompting Delhi Police to alert the local authorities there.
In terms of loot distribution:
Kailash and Kamlesh took Rs1 lakh each
Motilal and Rajmal received Rs10 lakh each
Mukesh was given Rs4 lakh for his role in the heist
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the absconding accused Kamlesh.
