Mahankali police have arrested two women, K. Saraswati (65) from Krishna district and K. Swathi (40) from Kothagudem, Khammam district, for duping elderly men by pretending to help them find marriage alliances.
According to officials, the women posed as relatives looking for a bride or groom and approached elderly men with false promises. Once the men showed interest, the duo would ask for money citing health or family emergencies, and then disappear.
One of the victims, a man from Khammam, reported losing Rs1.8 lakh to the scam. Following his complaint, a case was registered and an investigation launched. The police are urging other victims to come forward and file complaints if they were similarly defrauded.
The case underscores the growing trend of targeting vulnerable individuals, especially seniors, with emotionally manipulative scams.
