A Pompano Beach man is accused of posing as a Bank of America fraud investigator and stealing $40,000 from a Coral Springs woman during an elaborate, multi-day phone scam.
According to Coral Springs Police arrest records, 37-year-old Juvenson Sudney faces charges of grand theft, organized scheme to defraud, and identity theft. Investigators say the scheme began on September 25 and continued for several days.
Police said the victim reported receiving multiple phone calls each day from someone claiming to work in Bank of America’s fraud department. The caller allegedly told her that a $300 unauthorized purchase had been attempted in West Palm Beach and that a $42,000 wire transfer had also been initiated but later canceled. Investigators said the victim was provided a fake cancellation number to make the claims appear legitimate.
On September 29, the caller allegedly contacted the victim again, claiming another attempt had been made to withdraw money from her account. Police said the caller instructed her to withdraw $40,000 in cash and remained on the phone with her throughout the process.
Investigators said the victim was told to place the cash in a bag labeled “FDIC” and was informed that a driver would be sent to collect the money.
Security footage from the Palm Point Apartments on West Atlantic Boulevard reportedly shows Sudney arriving at the complex and requesting access through the visitor entry system. Additional video later captured him placing a bag of money into the rear of his vehicle after stopping at the victim’s building.
After the exchange, the victim reportedly began to suspect something was wrong. Police said the caller then pressured her to withdraw an additional $40,000, claiming it was needed to stop further fraud allegedly involving internal bank employees. The caller later ended the communication and never collected the additional funds.
Using surveillance video and license plate reader data, investigators identified Sudney and confirmed his vehicle was at the apartment complex at the time of the incident. Police said the victim later identified Sudney in a lineup.
Sudney later turned himself in and was booked into the Broward County Main Jail. Bond was set at $110,000.
