Kaduna, Kaduna State — Justice R.M. Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Kaduna has convicted and sentenced Stephen Adeoti for impersonation and cybercrime.

Prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Adeoti faced a one-count charge for impersonating “Anonymous Collective” on Facebook between January and April 2025 in Bida, Niger State. The offence was under Section 22(2)(b)(i) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.

Adeoti pleaded guilty, and prosecution counsel M.E. Eimonye urged the court to convict and sentence him.

Justice Aikawa sentenced Adeoti to three years imprisonment or an option to pay a fine of N400,000. The court also ordered the forfeiture of an iPhone 7, which was used as a tool in the crime, to the Federal Government.

Adeoti’s arrest followed credible intelligence that uncovered his fraudulent online activities in Bida, Niger State.
