In a coordinated late-night crackdown, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two individuals in separate operations at Agartala Railway Station on Monday.

The first arrest involved 26-year-old Juma Debbarma, a resident of Bishrampara in Gomati district. Acting on intelligence, officials detained her with 21.605 kg of dry ganja concealed in five packets inside a trolley bag. The Officer-in-Charge of GRP, Tapas Das, confirmed that Debbarma intended to smuggle the consignment through Karimganj, Assam, to its final destination in Punjab.

Authorities estimate the contraband’s street value in Punjab to be around Rs7.5 lakh, where ganja is sold for nearly Rs35,000 per kilogram. A case has been registered against her under the NDPS Act at Agartala GRP Police Station.

In a separate operation the same night, GRP—alongside BSF and Bamutia Outpost Police—arrested Kamal Das (43) from Bugjur village in West Tripura. He is accused of human trafficking and is currently being interrogated. Investigators suspect more individuals from the same region may be involved in the trafficking network.

Both accused are scheduled to be produced in court, with police planning to seek custodial remand for further investigation.
