NAIROBI, Kenya — January 18 — Detectives from Rabai Sub-County have arrested three suspects believed to be members of a notorious highway robbery gang that has been targeting truck drivers along the busy Mombasa–Nairobi highway.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the arrests followed a tip-off from members of the public, prompting officers to carry out a targeted operation in the Mabirikani area. The operation resulted in the arrest of Juma Ali, Hamisi Juma, and Benedict Chirodo.
According to investigators, the trio is suspected of being part of a wider criminal network linked to a series of robberies reported near the Bonje area in Mazeras Township. The gang allegedly targeted truck drivers operating along the highway corridor.
During the arrests, detectives recovered several items believed to be connected to the crimes, including foreign currency, two pairs of military boots, 14 rolls of bhang, 32 pieces of mug glass, mobile phone chargers, two bales of carrier bags, and an HCL computer keyboard.
Police said the recovered items are linked to multiple cases recorded at Mazeras Police Station, indicating the gang’s extensive operations along the highway. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, ahead of their arraignment in court.
