Two Los Angeles County residents, Julian Mancilla Sotelo, 20, of Sylmar, and Angel Garcia, 27, of Glendale, were arrested for stealing mail from a Ventura County post office, officials announced Monday.
The theft occurred on Thursday, September 18, at the United States Postal Service Office on Pickwick Drive in Camarillo. Deputies responded promptly after being notified of the incident.
During the investigation, law enforcement spotted the suspects’ vehicle nearby. As deputies attempted a traffic stop, the suspects began discarding stolen mail from their car.
Both suspects were eventually stopped and taken into custody without incident. Authorities recovered numerous pieces of stolen mail both inside the vehicle and from the roadside.
The stolen mail was traced back to mailboxes in several cities including Camarillo, Carpinteria, Oxnard, and Ventura. So far, investigators have identified 16 victims and returned some of the recovered mail, with ongoing efforts to reunite the remaining items with their owners.
Mancilla Sotelo and Garcia face multiple charges including mail theft, identity theft, conspiracy, destruction of evidence, and fraud involving more than 10 victims.
