by Amelia Crawford

On Monday, Political Security forces in Syria arrested Nour Al-Hassan, a correspondent for the Lebanese online newspaper Al-Modon, following his visit to the Quneitra branch. Authorities claimed he failed to coordinate with the Media Directorate before accessing official offices.

Local reports indicate that Al-Hassan was summoned for questioning but was subsequently detained due to his journalistic activities.

Al-Modon condemned the arrest on Tuesday, calling for the immediate release of their correspondent and urging Syrian authorities to disclose his whereabouts.

Separately, the General Security forces recently detained journalist and media activist Hassan Zaza without any legal warrant, highlighting ongoing violations of press freedom and international norms protecting media workers in Syria.
