Three 18-year-old residents of San Jose were arrested last month in connection with a gang-related attempted murder involving a younger teenager, according to police reports released Friday.
The violent incident took place on the evening of February 25 outside a business located on East Capitol Expressway near McLaughlin Avenue and Highway 101. San Jose Police stated that three male gang members confronted the juvenile victim outside the establishment.
The suspects then entered the business and assaulted the teen, beating him until he lost consciousness. Despite the victim becoming unconscious, the attackers continued their assault before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival.
The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and placed in a medically induced coma for several weeks. Authorities have not released details on his current condition.
The San Jose Police Department’s gang unit identified one of the suspects as Joshua Velasco, along with two others who were 17 years old at the time of the assault. On June 25, Velasco and one suspect were arrested in San Jose, while the third was apprehended in Gilroy. Police also found gang-related evidence linking the suspects to the crime.
Velasco and the third suspect were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail, while the unidentified juvenile was placed in Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall. All three face attempted murder charges, police confirmed.
