MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis real estate agent, Joshua Spotts, is back behind bars after being indicted on new, more serious theft charges.
Spotts was previously arrested in November and charged with theft of property after allegedly keeping more than $14,000 from renters at a Memphis property. His bond at that time was set at $10,000, which he posted.
However, court records show Spotts was arrested again this week. He is now facing an indictment for theft of property between $60,000 and $250,000. The indictment alleges that between 2020 and 2025, Spotts unlawfully obtained or exercised control over money valued at $60,000 or more.
While the latest indictment does not detail how the alleged theft occurred, prior reports linked Spotts to accusations of stealing nearly $1 million from an elderly neighbor. He has also been accused of depositing several bad checks totaling more than $12,000 into an account at Orion Federal Credit Union.
His new bond has been set at $500,000. Court records show multiple ongoing cases against him in criminal and circuit courts in Shelby County.
Additionally, Spotts’ real estate license has been declared invalid in the state of Tennessee as legal proceedings continue.
