Clarksville Man Charged with Identity Theft After Traffic Stop in Hopkinsville
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A routine traffic stop in Hopkinsville led to the arrest of Joshua Overton, 47, on multiple charges, including theft of identity, while his passenger, Billy Scroggins, 56, was also arrested for heroin possession.
According to the Hopkinsville Police Department, officers stopped Overton’s vehicle on South Virginia Street Friday night for traveling the wrong way. During the stop, Overton reportedly gave officers a false name and date of birth twice.
Upon further investigation, authorities discovered that Overton had a suspended license and an active warrant for failure to appear. Additionally, officers found a substance believed to be heroin in Scroggins’ front pocket.
Overton was arrested and charged with:
Theft of identity
Possession of marijuana
Operating on a suspended or revoked license
Providing false information to law enforcement
Careless driving
Failure to produce an insurance card
Scroggins was also taken into custody and charged with heroin possession.
