Winnipeg, Manitoba – A 34-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Winnipeg police connected him to a series of shoplifting incidents totaling nearly $2,800 in stolen merchandise from several retail locations across the city.
The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says investigators with the Property Crime Unit identified the suspect as Joshua Michael McPherson, who was already under court-ordered conditions prohibiting him from attending certain stores.
According to authorities, the thefts occurred between August 6 and August 28, 2025, with the following reported losses:
August 6: $356 from a store in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue
August 14: $1,793 from the 800 block of Leila Avenue
August 24: $199 from the 1600 block of Kenaston Boulevard
August 25: $284 from the 1400 block of Portage Avenue
August 28: $178 from a second store on the 1500 block of Regent Avenue
On September 25, investigators located McPherson at a residence in the William Whyte neighborhood and arrested him without incident.
He now faces five counts of theft under $5,000 and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order. Police also confirmed he had outstanding warrants for:
Five more counts of failing to comply with probation
Five additional counts of theft under $5,000
One count of failing to comply with a release order
One count of identity theft
McPherson remains in custody as the investigation continues.
