Josh Fitzpatrick, a former meteorologist for WVIR-TV in Charlottesville, is facing serious criminal charges following his arrest in Ohio on a fugitive warrant. Authorities say Fitzpatrick, who left his position at the station in early March, was apprehended Tuesday, April 22, 2025, with help from Ohio law enforcement.
According to Albemarle County Police, Fitzpatrick has been charged with felony sexual extortion and unlawful creation of an image of another. Investigators discovered that Fitzpatrick had relocated to Ohio shortly after their investigation into the alleged crimes began.
Fitzpatrick is currently being held in Gallia County, Ohio, where he appeared in court for an extradition hearing. He is expected to be returned to Virginia, where court dates will be scheduled.
Police believe there may be more victims and are urging anyone who may have had an encounter with Fitzpatrick to contact the Albemarle County Police Criminal Investigations Division at 434-296-5807.
