CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) has arrested 31-year-old Joseph Tanner Smith in connection with a deadly stabbing that occurred early Sunday morning at a residence on Lindsay Avenue.
Officers responded around 5:32 a.m. to a report of a stabbing in the 600 block of Lindsay Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a 37-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds and Smith, the suspect, with a head injury.
Both individuals were transported to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS. The victim later died from his injuries.
CPD’s Homicide Unit launched an investigation, with the Crime Scene Unit processing the scene. Preliminary findings suggest that a disagreement between the two men escalated into a physical fight, resulting in the fatal stabbing. No other residents were injured.
Authorities obtained arrest warrants for Joseph Tanner Smith, who is now charged with criminal homicide. He was taken into custody and booked into the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center.
The incident took place in the East Brainerd area, near Graysville Road.
