Joseph Kungwengwe Sentenced to Six Years for Driving Stolen Car to Zimbabwe
A 37-year-old Zimbabwean man, Joseph Kungwengwe, has been sentenced to six years of direct imprisonment after being caught driving a stolen Toyota Corolla Cross en route to Zimbabwe.
The Mokopane Regional Court handed down the sentence after Kungwengwe was arrested on December 29 last year. He was found driving the stolen vehicle along the N1 highway near the Zebediela Toll Plaza in Limpopo.
According to Limpopo provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the car had been reported stolen in Brakpan, Gauteng. The provincial anti-smuggling team acted swiftly on intelligence indicating the vehicle was headed toward the Beitbridge border post.
“The vehicle matched the description of a reported stolen Toyota Corolla Cross. It was intercepted before it could cross the border,” said Colonel Ledwaba.
Kungwengwe was arrested on the spot, and the vehicle was seized for further investigation. After a court trial, he was convicted for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and sentenced accordingly.
