SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WETM) — A Pennsylvania man was arrested in July following the theft of a trailer from a Southport business, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Friel, 33, from Millerton, PA, faces a class E felony charge of grand larceny in the fourth degree related to the incident that occurred on July 15. Deputies responded to a business at 1600 Cedar Street on July 16 after the utility trailer was reported stolen.

Surveillance footage captured Friel using a pickup truck to remove the trailer from the back of the business during the overnight hours of July 15. Further investigation revealed he had moved the trailer to a remote location in Southport to conceal it.

Deputies located Friel, who cooperated and disclosed the trailer’s hiding spot. The trailer was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

Friel was arrested, processed, and issued an appearance ticket for Town of Southport Court before being released.
