Jose Ruiz-Crespin Charged With Attempted Murder in DUI Case

Chicago officer injured after being struck by DUI suspect

CHICAGO – A 22-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly striking a Chicago police officer with his vehicle while driving under the influence late Saturday night.

According to police, officers were patrolling on foot around 11:30 p.m. in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue when they encountered a large crowd. During this time, Jose Ruiz-Crespin, 22, attempted to leave the area in a gray sedan. While doing so, he struck an officer, causing the officer to fall and sustain an ankle injury.

Ruiz-Crespin was immediately arrested at the scene. He now faces multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated DUI resulting in bodily harm, and other misdemeanor offenses.

His court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11.
