Lakeland, Fla. — The second suspect involved in the theft of two swans and their eggs from a Polk County mobile home park has been arrested. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Jordan Montoya, 27, turned himself in late Friday night, two days after Alfredo Casanova, 29, was apprehended for the crime.
The stolen swans, named Sterling and Luna, were taken from the Highland Village Mobile Home Park on West Brannen Road earlier this month. The birds, which had been living at the park for years, were discovered last week in Cutler Bay, a town located in Miami-Dade County.
On the night of February 12, Casanova and Montoya allegedly entered the property with nets and a bucket, capturing the swans and their eggs from their nesting box. Following their arrest, the sheriff’s office confirmed that the stolen swans and eggs would be returned to their rightful home at the mobile home park.
Both Casanova and Montoya are facing charges of burglary of a structure, with an enhancement for crossing county lines, as well as grand theft.
