Suspect tied to thefts from Michigan to Massachusetts

TROY, Mich. — One of the primary suspects in a multi-state auto theft operation has been arrested in Troy, according to police.

Jordan Gray, 31, was taken into custody on April 14 by the Troy Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, working alongside the Macomb County Auto Theft Task Force. His arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into an organized auto theft ring operating throughout Southeast Michigan and as far as Massachusetts.

Investigators say Gray has been connected to dozens of motor vehicle thefts in a pattern stretching from western Michigan across state lines. Authorities used social media tracking, phone data mapping, and surveillance to build the case against him.

In early April, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office authorized charges against Gray for Conducting a Criminal Enterprise (CCE). He was arraigned on April 15 and given a $1 million bond. If released, he will be required to wear a steel GPS tether.

A search warrant carried out at Gray’s residence during the arrest uncovered significant evidence, including numerous stolen key fobs, a large amount of cash, and a stolen Glock switch—a prohibited firearm accessory used to convert handguns into automatic weapons.

Law enforcement officials say the investigation remains active and expect more arrests in connection with the larger theft ring.
