COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. (WKRC) — A father has been arrested in connection with the murder and decapitation of his 16-year-old son, months after the teen was reported missing.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by KROC, the boy was reported missing by his mother on May 12. She told authorities that the teen lived with his father, 38-year-old Jordan Dupree Collins. The mother said she last heard from her son on May 8 around 4 a.m. when he responded to a text message. Collins reportedly told her the boy left that morning to visit his grandmother and girlfriend by bus, but he never arrived.
Family members, including the victim’s girlfriend, also confirmed no contact had been made since May 8.
On May 15, police obtained a search warrant for Collins’ home. They discovered evidence indicating foul play, including blood-stained items in garbage bags and several butcher and hunting knives in the bedroom closet. A mattress on the floor had a piece of missing fabric on its underside, and carpet and padding beneath the mattress were also missing. None of these items were found inside the apartment.
On July 1, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Department announced the discovery of the boy’s body in a landfill, after deputies tracked a garbage truck collecting trash from Collins’ residence. A preliminary autopsy found the teen had likely been decapitated.
Collins was arrested and charged with murder. The investigation remains ongoing.
