DETROIT — Federal prosecutors have charged former Wayne County public official Jontae Jackson, 45, with accepting nearly $18,000 in bribes connected to a real estate scheme. Jackson, a Detroit resident and former taxpayer assistant in the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office, is accused of conspiring to manipulate property records for personal gain.
According to a criminal information filed in federal court Thursday, Jackson is expected to plead guilty to charges of bribery, conspiracy, and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors allege she misused her position to carry out fraudulent activities involving real estate transactions, including falsifying documents and stealing personal information.
The scheme reportedly involved receiving bribes in exchange for influencing the outcome of property matters handled by the treasurer’s office. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Detroit.
If convicted, Jackson faces significant prison time and fines. Further details on the plea agreement and sentencing will be announced at a later date.
