Former Guernsey Chief Minister Jonathan Le Tocq Arrested Over Telecoms Offences

Jonathan Le Tocq, former chief minister of Guernsey, has been arrested in connection with alleged telecommunications offences. Guernsey Police confirmed on Monday that a 61-year-old man was taken into custody and remains under investigation.

The arrest, which occurred Monday morning, was publicly confirmed late Tuesday evening. Police emphasized that the investigation remains active and that no charges have been filed at this stage.

Shortly after the news broke, the Policy & Resources Committee released a statement acknowledging the arrest and confirming that Deputy Le Tocq would step back from all committee activities while the investigation continues.

“The remaining members of the committee have unanimously agreed that Deputy Le Tocq will not participate in any committee business while the police investigation is ongoing,” the statement read. The committee declined to comment further.

Le Tocq, who served as the island’s senior politician from 2014 to 2016, recently returned to the Policy & Resources Committee following the most recent election. He had also retained his role as Guernsey’s external relations lead.

Once considered a favorite for the committee presidency, he came third in a post-election vote but was still returned to serve unopposed.

Authorities reiterated that the matter remains under investigation and urged the public to avoid speculation until the inquiry concludes.
