MILWAUKEE, WI — A 51-year-old Milwaukee man, Jonathan Caravello, has been charged with second-degree reckless homicide in connection with the May 5 death of another man following a violent altercation near 37th and Orchard.
According to a Milwaukee County criminal complaint, police were called to the scene for a battery report. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim lying unresponsive in an alley. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was declared dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the altercation began after the victim — reportedly known to Caravello — entered the backyard of Caravello’s home. A woman present during the incident stated the two men argued and began fighting. During the confrontation, Caravello allegedly put the victim in a chokehold, threw a wooden bat at him, and placed him in a second chokehold.
Video evidence recovered from the scene shows Caravello on top of the victim. At one point, the victim can be heard saying, “You won,” while Caravello shouts threats, allegedly yelling he was going to kill the man. After the assault, Caravello walked away, and the victim remained motionless.
Caravello made his initial court appearance on Saturday, May 10, and remains in custody.
The investigation remains ongoing.
