WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) — A 33-year-old Summerville man, Johnathan Ahmad Dais, has been arrested and charged in a human trafficking case following an investigation into prostitution in the West Ashley area, according to the Charleston Police Department.

Dais is facing multiple serious charges including:

Trafficking in persons – 1st offense

Prostitution – 2nd offense

Assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature

Police say the investigation began on Wednesday after a victim came forward, accusing Dais of forcing them into prostitution and profiting from their exploitation. The victim also reported that Dais had strangled and punched them, causing them to fear for their life.

Dais was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center the same day, according to online jail records.

The Charleston Police Department conducted the investigation in collaboration with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

Officials continue to urge anyone with information related to human trafficking or suspicious activity to contact law enforcement immediately.
