John R. Griffin Jr., 64, of Berlin, New Hampshire, has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a Bank of America branch in Concord on November 20. Griffin faces felony charges of robbery and theft by unauthorized taking, with police holding him on preventative detention.
The robbery occurred on Storrs Street when a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt, black ski mask, gloves, and ski goggles entered the bank and demanded money from the teller. Though he didn’t present a weapon, the teller reported that Griffin kept one hand in his pocket as if armed. The total amount stolen from the bank was $12,813.
Griffin’s arrest follows an investigation that included the FBI, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office Drug Task Force, and the Berlin Police Department. Surveillance footage helped identify Griffin as the suspect, linking him to a vehicle registered in his name.
Notably, Griffin had been convicted of theft by unauthorized taking in 2013 for a similar robbery at a Bank of America in Merrimack, New Hampshire, during which he wore a rubber mask resembling former President Barack Obama.
