Islamorada Man John Michael Sogegian Arrested for Contractor Fraud
MONROE COUNTY, Fla. — A 45-year-old man from Islamorada, John Michael Sogegian, was arrested on Wednesday after a routine traffic stop on U.S. 1 led authorities to discover an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The arrest took place near Mile Marker 98, where deputies took Sogegian into custody and transported him to the local jail.
Sogegian is facing multiple charges, including grand theft and contractor fraud, stemming from allegations that he operated a fraudulent window installation business. Authorities claim he accepted large payments from homeowners across Monroe County but failed to deliver the agreed-upon services or complete the contracted work.
While the total number of victims and exact amount of financial damage have not been disclosed, investigators suggest that the case involves significant financial losses for local residents.
The traffic stop that led to Sogegian’s arrest was initiated by Monroe County deputies for an unspecified reason. Upon identifying the suspect and confirming the warrant, deputies made the arrest without incident.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud.
