IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Spike strips and a taser were used in the arrest of two suspects after a high-speed pursuit near Idaho Falls.

On Feb. 3, the Idaho Falls Police Department requested assistance from Idaho State Police (ISP) to serve a warrant on a vehicle occupant. The vehicle was spotted at a rest stop near milepost 101 on Interstate 15 in Bingham County. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as 29-year-old John Geyer, fled the scene.

ISP deployed spike strips, deflating three of the vehicle’s tires. Geyer continued driving, exiting and re-entering I-15 before finally stopping in a parking lot near the Broadway exit. He attempted to flee on foot, but officers deployed a taser and took him into custody without further incident.

During the pursuit, Geyer allegedly threw two bags containing drugs from the vehicle. Police recovered roughly 2,240 fentanyl pills, 37 grams of methamphetamine, 101 grams of fentanyl powder, and drug paraphernalia. Geyer faces charges including fentanyl trafficking, methamphetamine trafficking, destruction of evidence, felony eluding, and an outstanding warrant from Bingham County.

A 27-year-old female passenger, Alyssa Massey, was also arrested and faces charges for trafficking fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. While being booked into Bonneville County Jail, Massey was found with marijuana on her person, adding charges for possession of a controlled substance and introducing contraband into a correctional facility.

The Idaho Falls Police Department continues to investigate the case.
