John Brogan & Matthew Waltz Face Charges After Seized Stolen Property

Arrests follow discovery of stolen items in Nelson County

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Two men are facing multiple charges after authorities recovered stolen property linked to open larceny cases.

On November 19, the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a large amount of stolen property discovered during a narcotics search warrant executed by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office at a property located on Quail Run Drive in the Piney River area. The search was part of an investigation into drug activities, but deputies also found stolen items at the location.

The Amherst County Investigations Division assisted in recovering the stolen property, which was tied to ongoing larceny cases in Amherst County. Additional search warrants were obtained in the following days, leading to more stolen items being found.

John T. Brogan, 32, of Nelson County, was arrested and faces numerous charges, including narcotics and weapons offenses, as well as five counts of grand larceny, three counts of breaking and entering, and one count of property damage. Brogan is currently being held without bond at the Albemarle/Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Matthew Waltz, 36, also from Nelson County, is facing three counts of grand larceny and one count of breaking and entering. He remains at large, and deputies are seeking information about his whereabouts.
