WILMINGTON, N.C. – A 25-year-old man, John Batts of Havelock, was arrested after running naked down Independence Boulevard and assaulting a police officer in the early hours of June 20, according to the Wilmington Police Department (WPD).
Police responded to a report around 2:30 a.m. of a man running unclothed through the area. When officers located Batts, he allegedly became aggressive and assaulted a female officer. The officer deployed her taser, allowing her to subdue and arrest him.
Batts was transported to a hospital by EMS, where he reportedly continued to act violently. The officer he assaulted was treated at the ER and later released.
Batts is now facing several serious charges, including:
Indecent Exposure
Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury
Felony Assault on Emergency Personnel
Resisting, Delaying, or Obstructing a Public Officer
Impeding the Flow of Traffic
Injury to Personal Property
He is being held on a $150,000 secured bond.
